About Us

"The Yogi Vegetarian" is me (Sarojini) and my husband Nandasuta. We are both vegan now (although we weren't when The Yogi Vegetarian blog was started) but our teenagers are not, so we have to be constantly creating new and delicious main meals to tempt their temperamental teenage tastebuds so we can all eat at least one meal a day together. We don't have loads of money, so we have learned to shop smart and eat well on a budget. We want to show you that you can do it too! We have both been pure vegetarian or vegan for many years and also follow a yogic diet which excludes eggs, mushrooms, masoor dal, garlic, onions and alcohol. We are practitioners of Bhakti Yoga, the ancient Vedic path of Krishna Consciousness. We were contributors to the Bhakti Yoga cookbook "Kitchen of Love", and are currently working on another cookbook of our own.

Another thing about us is that we're passionate about growing our own veg, (and some fruit too). We have two allotment plots near our house and a large polytunnel in our back garden as of 2013. We grow potatoes, pumpkin, kadu and courgettes, mangetout, different types of green beans, broad beans, different types of spinach, kale, lettuce and other salad leaves, beetroot, parsnips, cucumbers, tomatoes, chillis, rhubarb, soft fruit like blackcurrants and raspberries, apples and herbs... basically, as much as we can! This really helps to keep food bills down for at least half of the year, and means we can afford to eat organic produce.

  1. Hi! I am Namita. It was a pleasure to know you through Vegan Thursdays. I loved your philosophy and admired your love for growing your own veggies. It is so gratifying to work in your kitchen garden and be rewarded with the produce which is organic and grown with love.
I loved your recipe (Flapjacks) too. I loved the pictures of your temple.
Would love to be in touch.
    Regards and best wishes!
